The Borneo International Yachting Challenge is a Category 3 event, catering to five categories of boats, namely racing, cruising, sports, classic and ocean multi-hull.

In what is possibly the missing link for sailing events in South China Sea region, the Borneo International Yachting Challenge will complete the sailing circuit made up of the Hong Kong to San Fernando Sea Race (Philippines), President's Cup (Philippines) and the Koh Samui International Regatta (Thailand).

The overall winner of the Borneo International Yachting Challenge trophy will be those with the least accumulated corrected times of the Miri Bay Regatta, the Miri-Labuan Passage Race, the Labuan Harbour Regatta, Labuan-Kota Kinabalu Passage Race, KK Bay Regatta (IRC class only).

The committee is made up of the Miri Marina based in Miri and Sabah State. The leading authorities lending support to the event for Sarawak are the Ministry of Urban Development and Tourism Sarawak, the Sarawak Tourism Board and Sabah Tourism Board.

The working committee is headed by the Honorable YB Datuk Lee Kim Shin, the Assistant Minister for Infrastructure Development and Communications, and YBhg Dato Seri Tengku Zainal Adlin, Chairman of Sabah Tourism Board.

Miri Marina and Sutera Harbour will be the hosting marinas.

BIYC welcomes cruisers visiting the region to join in the fun and share in a unique cultural experience from the beautiful Miri Marina to duty-free Labuan, East Malaysia and finishing up in the exotic destination of Kota Kinabalu in Sabah.
